If you have space in your luggage for Victorian fancy dress, you’ll love the Keswick Victorian Fayre on 4th December. This annual event is a great day out with music and street performers, stalls and entertainment. Buy your last-minute Christmas gifts and get involved in competitions and other fun events. This is a perfect start to the Christmas season, and younger children will love seeing Santa in his sleigh drawn by live reindeer!

Christmas Grotto

Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside, where we’re based, always has a lovely grotto at Christmas as well as a wonderful range of all things festive. This year they’re running their popular Christmas wreath workshop on 6th December, and if you’re creative you won’t want to miss it. There are always plenty of useful hints and tips on keeping greenery fresh, too.

Santa Express

If you’re visiting with young children or you’re a steam train fanatic, you won’t want to miss the picturesque Santa Express. This runs through some stunning scenery in the Lake District National Park and it’s the perfect pre-Christmas treat. But we recommend you book before you arrive as it’s incredibly popular.

Beatrix Potter

Another unmissable treat for the little ones is the Peter Rabbit tea party at the World of Beatrix Potter. We strongly advise you to book in advance to avoid disappointment since this is such a charming way to spend an afternoon with Peter and all your other Beatrix Potter favourites, with a scrumptious tea and a story thrown in!

Christmas Carols

We all know Christmas isn’t Christmas without carols and there are beautiful churches all over the Lake District with carol concerts throughout the festive period. If you’re looking for more events in Ambleside, we highly recommend stopping by the Ambleside Choral Society’s annual concert, taking place on 10th December.
