Always the first Saturday in July. This wonderful tradition dates back to the 1700’s when rushes covering church floors were thrown out and new ones laid. These days its a very colourful procession, with children and adults carrying Rushbearings made from rushes and flowers. The procession takes the historic route through the village to the church where a short service is held. A piece of gingerbread and snack bag is given to each child and Rushbearing Sports follows.
Location: AMBLESIDE a procession leaving Vicarage Rd (near St Mary’s Church), Ambleside, LA22
