Things to do on your weekend break in Ambleside
18 October 2017It’s the perfect time of year to stay in Ambleside. The picturesque little town – located in the heart of the Lake District – is simply bursting with fun activities that will stimulate both the mind and body. That’s why if you’re planning a weekend away, there really is no better place to call home for a few nights than Ambleside. Here are just three things that should tickle your fancy during your stay.
The architecture
Ambleside is so quaint and so unique. In fact, you could spend hours upon hours just walking the streets and soaking up the architecture in front of you. While it’s more than likely you will be impressed by the mere sight of shops and homes, the real show-stoppers are buildings such as the historical Bridge House or Wray Castle. These are both one-of-a-kind structures that can’t be found anywhere else in the country.
The nature
It’s true that there’s always a physical activity to enjoy in Ambleside. This could be anything from rowing, biking or climbing. Meanwhile, a hike – possibly in the scenic Loughrigg Fell – never leaves tourists or locals disappointed. It’s one of the many green spaces that are ideal for hiking in the area. Don’t worry though, you’ll be able to put your feet up and rest afterwards when you return to your Ambleside B&B.
The history
There’s one name that usually springs to mind when people think of Ambleside: Beatrix Potter. The Peter Rabbit author lived there for many years and her home – a farmhouse called Hill Top – now welcomes visitors throughout the year. If literary history doesn’t float your boat, then you might be best off heading to the enchanting Armitt Museum. The building – which doubles up as a library and gallery – celebrates the cultural heritage of the Lake District.
