We ought to be straight with you – we’re not entirely impartial on this!  We can think of numerous reasons why our Ambleside B&B is great – and we’re mentioning some of them below – but just as it’s difficult to describe how beautiful a piece of music is to someone who’s never heard it, it’s equally difficult to do justice to our Bed & Breakfast if you’ve never been!  The only thing for it – of course – is to try it out for yourselves and see if we’re right in our assessment.  And all the previous guests who’ve had such a wonderful time with us.

In the desire to give you a taster for how wonderful it is to stay here, we thought we’d say a few things about what we consider makes us great … the thing is, everyone who stays comes up with something new, but we have to start somewhere.

Small is beautiful

No doubt there’s something to be said for the giant luxury hotels with every imaginable amenity like the ones you find on the strip in Las Vegas.  I’ve stayed in one, and they’re very nice.  That said, and quite apart from the fact that one of these wouldn’t fit in all that well in the Lake District – even if someone was allowed to build one (which they wouldn’t be) – there’s also something to be said for the personal touch.  For me, luxury is a small, quiet, friendly place where you feel genuinely special.  Where you can relax.  Where you feel at home.  Where you’ll want to return.  Where you’ll create wonderful memories.

Our location

As if that wasn’t enough, we’re in the centre of Ambleside, only a few minutes away from all the shops, pubs, restaurants and other amenities that our wonderful town offers.

So, unless you’re travelling out of town, as soon as you arrive why not put the car keys in a drawer and forget about them until the moment comes when you have to leave.  There are worse things you can do!

And of course if you do decide to venture out of town you’re right in the heart of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Of course, it’s not all about boating on the Lakes, walking, and taking in the breathtaking scenery … perhaps visit Wordsworth’s Cottage or where Beatrix Potter was inspired … or numerous other attractions.

Or simply switch off from all the hurly burly and spend some time relaxing – pottering around little craft and book shops, having a quiet drink in an authentic pub, perhaps a little bit of fine dining.
