What’s on in Ambleside this winter?
15 November 2016There’s never a bad time to stay at 3 Cambridge Villas and winter can be a wonderful time to explore everything the Lake District has to offer. Vistas that are hidden in the summer are revealed in all their glory once the leaves have fallen, and the wintry sun and low lying mist across Lake Windermere can be truly magical.
But aside from the stunning scenery, there’s so much to see and do. Many of the best hill walks start just minutes from the door and there are plenty of great pubs and restaurants to relax in when the day is done. We also have 3 great cinemas in Ambleside including Zeffirellis (for art house movies and live jazz) and Fellinis, where you can sip a nice glass of wine while watching your movie or screened live performance.
In the run up to Christmas, you can watch the arrival of Santa in Ambleside on 19th November. He doesn’t arrive by sleigh but on one of the traditional Lake Windermere steamers! There’s a spectacular parade through the town centre at dusk, lit by hundreds of paper lanterns, before Santa turns on the Christmas lights as if by magic! This is such a special event, we’d urge you not to miss it as it’s perfect for all the family. This year there will be fun fairs as well as the traditional firework display. It’s something we look forward to every year, and we hope it will become part of your family’s Christmas traditions, too.
We also have a fabulous farmer’s market every Friday, where you can buy the very best of fresh local produce and jams, preserves and cakes. You can even come away with something delicious for dinner.
If you’re in the Lake District to explore the great outdoors, then you won’t want to miss the Kendal Mountain Festival (17-20 November).
With so many events in Ambleside and across the Lakes, we hope you’ll enjoy the winter here as much as we do.
